Best Bets Analytics was born during dinner on a Christmas Eve
During our traditional Christmas Eve dinner, our family sat at a restaurant in New Orleans talking shop in anticipation of the upcoming football playoffs. Would this be the year so-and-so’s quarterback finally drove their team all the way to the Super Bowl? Of course not, look at his QB rating against the top teams they'd have to beat during the playoffs! And they won't have home field advantage - look at their road record! Look at the data. Somewhere between Caesar salads and white chocolate bread pudding, a crazy idea was thrown out: could we construct an analytics model with all of the available data that could predict the outcome of NFL games? Of any sports game? And could use those predictions to get a betting advantage against our friends? Or against the Vegas books? Or the sports books opening up all around us?
Never ones to let a crazy idea pass us by, we used the days between Christmas and New Years to start designing an analytics model to do just that. Leaning on over 30 years of deep data and analytics experience in other businesses combined with prior experience writing software for an NFL team, we thought we might have the background to build something that was unique. We gathered data, fiddled, finagled, and tested for weeks after, eventually comparing our predicted outcomes against historic data and spread predictions.
What we found blew us away.
Correct predictions against the spread well above 60%. This was the start of something much bigger than we originally intended. After some fine tuning of the data models and a healthy dose of business planning, Best Bets Analytics was born.
We believe in loving what you do, and we do the work because we love it. We love data. We love sports. We love talking shop. We’re the first people on our feet to sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”. We’re the last people to stop cheering after a pick six. Three hour debates on the impact of a key lineup change are what we live for.
We believe in excellence from hard work.
Wins born of careful calculations.
Victory through analytics.
